Student Spotlight: Shelby @ Syracuse University
The Admittedly Team
Meet Shelby, a senior at Syracuse University majoring in Inclusive Elementary and Special Education. She previously attended Canyon Crest Academy in San Diego, California.
What factors were most important when deciding which college to attend?
A wide range of travel abroad programs, school spirit, and a classic east coast campus (big quad, old brick buildings, trees, etc.).
In high school, I wish I would have tried...
harder on testing (for finals, SAT's etc.).
How would you characterize your school?
Activist, Party, Liberal, and Sporty
What types of clubs, activities, sports, jobs, etc. are you involved with on campus?
I work in a sandwich shop right off campus at a little place called Jimmy Johns. My major is considered a double major so my schedule is packed. I spend the majority of my time out in local public school teaching and tutoring students. On campus, I attend a lot of events like our annual drag show or paint night.
Best on-campus event:
MAYFEST!! Easily the best day of the year full of free food and booze (for those 21 and older) paid for by the University.
Evolutionary Biology and Religion and Society (Talk about a controversy).
Favorite Dining Hall Meal:
Tender Tuesday! Lines are always out the door for this coveted fried chicken.
On weekends, students:
Tailgate (even if we don't have a game), sit out on the quad when the weather is nice, and prepare for all-nighters.
It's 1AM on Saturday. Where are you?
Chucks! The best bar in Syracuse. :)
It's finals week and the libraries are packed. Where do you go study?
The basement of Huntington Hall. There are also lots of empty classrooms to take over during finals. I also love the lecture halls in New House.
*Before I graduate, I want to...
Do a dome stomp. A dome stomp is where you and a bunch of your friends go between the pillars of the dome and jump together. It makes a crazy noise that has been used in the Star Wars movies.
Anything else awesome that we should know about your college?
There are more than just parties. The campus actually puts on a lot of late night events if you're not into that scene. Paint night is always a hit and there are lots of fun places you can go to like skiing, tubing, or the indoor water park!
